Harnessing the sun's rays all begins with solar cells

Overview

In solar power generation, solar cells directly convert energy from sunlight into electricity. With each square meter on the Earth's surface receiving about 1 kW of solar power, hypothetically converting all of this sunlight would provide enough electricity to meet the world's annual energy needs in just one hour. What's more, this energy source cannot be depleted.

Japan currently relies on imports for most energy resources, such as oil or coal. These fossil fuels are finite, and with continued use, they will eventually run out. Solar power generation applying the inexhaustible energy of sunlight is one of the most promising solutions to increasingly serious energy resource issues. Another key feature of solar power is that it is clean. This power generation is entirely free of carbon dioxide emissions, which are considered a cause of climate change.

Solar power represents an easy-to-obtain, environmentally-friendly energy source. Japan is also one of the world's leading countries for technology in this field, and installation here is expected to increase.

Solar Power Advantages

Harnessing sunlight as a clean, inexhaustible source of renewable energy eliminates emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrogen compounds, sulfur oxides, or other pollutants when generating power. Generation efficiency remains constant at all scales of installation. A system can be chosen to suit the size of the installation site. Maintenance is easier than for other power generation systems, automatic and unattended operation are possible, and systems last longer because they are structurally simple and free of mechanical wear.
